Boating enthusiasts from North Arm Cove and visitors on Port Stephens waters are set to benefit from a recently announced Government grant.

A tenderer will be engaged by Great Lakes Council and the NSW Government to investigate options and perform a study to allow an increase in boating activities in and around North Arm Cove, including the proposal of construction of a boat ramp and jetty for both local residents and visitors to enjoy.
At a special ceremony held on Thursday 4 February at North Arm Cove, Mayor of Great Lakes Jan McWilliams, and Scot MacDonald MLC who is the Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter & Central Coast, discussed the possibilities ahead for North Arm Cove and the areas increasing amount of visitors.
Speaking with Myall Coast News, Scot MacDonald said, “The NSW Government allocated $30,000 through the NSW Boating Now program to identify and prioritise options for a boat ramp and jetty at North Arm Cove for the local community and visitors of Port Stephens to enjoy.”
“With the beautiful waterways in and around North Arm Cove and increasing popularity in boating, the study will assess how access to the water can be improved for all boaters,” Mr MacDonald said.
Great Lakes Council have also seen a lot of merit in the program as it also looks at ways of improving facilities at North Arm Cove, and have chipped in $20,000 towards the project.

Mr MacDonald said, “The NSW Government has provided $37.5 million from NSW Boating Now to support delivery of the 192 Priority Regional Projects identified in the 11 Regional Boating Plans.”
“An additional $10 million has also been set aside for major projects, $5 million for boat trailer parking initiatives and another $10 million for the delivery of second round projects in the last two years of this program.”
“NSW Boating Now aims to further enhance the boating experience by improving the capacity and amenity of boating infrastructure on NSW waterways,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Priority regional projects were identified following consultation with councils, local sports clubs and organisations as well as every day boaters.”
“These projects include upgrades and new infrastructure such as boat ramps, jetties, pontoons, car parks and sewage pump out facilities,” he said.
