Tea Gardens Hawks
Tea Gardens continued their dismal away form, going down by 20 points to 10 at Malabulla on Saturday. Wet conditions did not suit the Hawks, however discipline issues and unforced errors were their downfall. The Hawks dominated positional play in the early stages, before a length of the field try from Malabulla broke the deadlock. A further 2 tries had the home side out to a 14 nil lead at the break. An early try to Aaron Waters got the Hawks back in the game, before a lapse in structure on the left wing saw Malabulla out to 18-4. Brooke Roach scored a leaders try, before Malabulla kicked a penalty goal from one of twenty awarded to them. Best for the Hawks were John Schultz who picked up 3 awards, and David Edmonds. Matt Gilbert took the ball up strongly, supported by Nic Lagudi and Brooke Roach. The Hawks are at home to fifth place West Wallsend on Saturday. The game will kick off at 2:30, following the Myall River Juniors. It is a” must win” game to keep a top three position in the semi finals.
Five games of Junior League, saw results go the Hawks way 4 to 1. A feature of the “Tea Gardens fencing” 6’s game against Malabulla was Dallas Stokes’ first try. The “Masonic Lodge” nines continued to improve with a strong game against Malabulla. The “Tea Gardens BP” 11’s scored their first win of the season. Tries to Patrick Nickle, Billy Watt and Riley Kerry. Zane Ridley scored two tries in the higher age group after a full game in the nines. Zane Pietsch also backed up to support the 11’s. The “JR Richards” 13’s won a nail-biter in the next game. Brent Johnson scored a last minute try to clinch a 14 point to eleven win. The win elevates the team to 3rd spot, ensuring a position in the semi-finals. The “Country Club” 16’s were defeated by competition leaders, Muswellbrook by 42 points to 4. The team has re grouped, and played a strong game. A spokes person for Myall River said that the Club had received a petition from supporters to the League, requesting an explanation for the teams 2014 grading.
The Myall River Juniors are at home this Saturday, with the 6 year side kicking of at 9am.
The day will see a “Super Saturday” of League at Myall Park with six games to be played.
