HOMELESS Day is Friday, 1 August with charities and churches combining to make it a wonderful day for the homeless in Newcastle.
Hairdressers and manicurists give their time free for the day to help those in need.
Red Cross has asked for donations of new scarves, beanies, gloves, socks and blankets.
This day is not advertised as Red Cross would receive items that are not needy.
Buses are sent out to places where the homeless congregate, bring them into Newcastle and back again.
This is the fifth year Homeless Day has been recognized and it is getting bigger every year.
Jennifer Wenham, President of the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Red Cross, told Myall Coast News, “We have to have the goods in by Monday, 28 July and a Red Cross worker from Newcastle will come to Tea Gardens to collect all items.”
“If anyone has items to donate to this worthy cause, I can be contacted on 4997 1977 or you can call Yvonne O’Donnell on 4997 0927.
“We can collect the goods or they can be dropped at my home,” said Ms Wenham.
The local Red Cross also has another function soon afterwards.
“The Big Cake Bake”, which is scheduled to occur on Saturday, 16 August at Myall Quays Market Day.
