Do you know anyone who is doing great things in the art world? If so, Great Lakes Council is urging you to nominate them for an Arts Award in 2015.
GREAT Lakes Council has extended the nomination period for the biennial Great Lakes Arts Awards, and is calling on nominations from people who have made outstanding contributions to visual and performing and literary arts in the local government area.
The Awards aim to recognise individuals, groups and organisations for artistic excellence, innovation, achievement and/or support of the arts.
Nominations will now be received until Friday 21 August, with more information and nomination forms available on Council’s website.
The Arts Awards (previously known as the Great Lakes Cultural Awards), are awarded every second year to acknowledge and honour outstanding contributions to visual and performing and literary arts in the local government area, to recognise individuals, groups and organisations for artistic excellence, innovation, achievement and/or support of the arts.
Nominations are invited under five categories, namely: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts, and Youth (under 18).
The fifth category, Enlightened Support is awarded to an individual, group or organisation that has made a significant contribution to any creative discipline either by endowment or by creative practice.
Winners of an award in 2013, The Forster Jumping Fleas Ukulele Band, were thrilled with their award.
“It was fantastic recognition for what we were doing,” said Roberta Pearce who leads the group.
“It has encouraged us to do bigger and better performances,” she said.
“We’re tackling more difficult songs, and I believe our membership has grown as a result of the publicity.”
The nomination period closes at 4.30pm on 21 August 2015, and will be followed by an awards evening at Club Forster on 17 September.
