Bulahdelah Garden Club will be hosting guest speaker George Hoad.
George Hoad is a member of Garden Clubs Australia and is widely known within gardening and horticulture circles.
The popular Killabakh gardener had his gardening year ‘capped off in style’ with a recent visit from Channel 7’s popular lifestyle TV show Better Homes and Gardens.
Presenter Graham Ross and the crew spent a day, in mid December 2013, filming Georges quirky and whimsical country garden.
With only two weeks notice to get the garden ‘up to scratch’, George was working 14 hour days weeding, pruning, raking and mowing in preparation for the visit.
“After a four and a half month drought, severe windstorm and garden renovations underway, it was not the ideal time to film the garden,” said Mr Hoad.
“But I wasn’t about to say no,” he said.
“It’s amazing what a bit of caffeine, adrenaline and blood, sweat & tears can achieve.”

The shows producer was looking for a garden that was a bit quirky, interesting and unusual, not just ‘another pretty country garden’.
George has a whimsical take on a garden, with old tools & objet d’art scattered throughout, statues, fountains, a Giants Head, bottle tree, Oriental, Islamic and Jungle areas.
He writes a monthly gardening column for the local newspaper and bi-monthly report for the community bulletin.
Also judging the Potted Plant Section at the local show, a member of numerous gardening organizations and has recently been invited to contribute a regular gardening segment on the local ABC radio, Georges schedule is busier than the average gardener.
“My background is in the theatre industry as a singer, actor, theatre administrator and I still enjoy ‘treading the boards’ when time permits,” George said.
The Bulahdelah Garden Club meet monthly and are looking forward to the visit from George.
Barrie Bishop from the Garden Club said, “He is a well renowned gardener in his own right.”
“It purports to be a very interesting meeting and everyone is looking forward to it.”
The meeting is at the Uniting Church Hall next Tuesday July 15th commencing at 10am.
Mr Bishop asked for all interested to come along as, “This is also our annual soup day and makes for a great day,” he said.
