Explosive 2014 Myall River Festival for Tea Gardens

2014 was a successful Myall River Festival on the Tea Gardens riverfront with the new one day format delivering a jam packed event.Tea Gardens Festival

Thousands of locals and visitors took advantage of the fabulously sunny day in this beautiful location and enjoyed the mix of stage and street entertainment, on water activities and market stalls.

“The festival kicked off with performances by the talented students of the Tea Gardens Public School and the St Joseph’s Bulahdelah Choir and continued with a variety of professional stage performances until sunset,” said Festival organiser Craig Foot.

“Other highlights were the Duck Derby, the sail past, the Greenpaws Pet Show and the annual raft challenge – won this year by the Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club,” he said.

The evening concluded with an aquatic themed Lantern Parade and a spectacular fireworks display with the riverfront illuminated, creating the perfect atmosphere for families to gather and enjoy the festival finale.

Sharon Beatson from Greenpaws thanked Myall Coast News fro the coverage of the event, “The Pet Show was awesome, without a doubt the highlight of the day, had a massive turn out , thanks to the Myall Coast News.”

VOLUNTEERS gave away about 300 koala food trees and native shrubs to people attending the Myall River Festival.P1140019
Great Lakes Council gave Myall Koala and Environment Group about 400 seedlings of trees liked by koalas and 150 native bush plants to attract birds and these were gratefully received by people with properties and gardens mainly in the Tea
Gardens and Hawks Nest area, but some from as far away as Newcastle.
The trees ranged from swamp mahogany and dwarf red gum, the preferred koala food trees plus rainforest shrubs and native plants.
Myall Koala and Environment Group shared a stall with the local Bitou Busters and Land for Wildlife.
They gave advice, handed out leaflets and encouraged people to report koala sightings.

The group also enrolled a number of new members.
It was a good day for everyone to be more aware of their environment and to help the bush and wildlife to survive and grow.

The Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens Progress Association at the Myall River Festival

IT mightn’t have been the slickest looking stall at the Riverside Festival, but the attempt made by the Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens Progress Association was at least functional!
The Association used the occasion to advertise its strategic improvement plan for our area and seek feedback from locals and visitors on the many projects proposed in the plan.
“We had a very successful day,” said Trevor Jennings, Progress Association President. Trevor Jennings at Myall River Festival
“Apart from receiving some very informed feedback from residents, we raised over $150 from the sale of hamper raffle tickets,” he said.
Trevor told Myall Coast News that they also received a few new applications for membership from residents and property owners who share the Association’s view of improving the amenity of our beautiful area.

      The dates for the River Festival is always the last Saturday in October so this year it would make it the 31st of October.
