Tea Gardens Men’s Bowls By “The JAFFA”
January 7: It was as though 52 bowlers had been starved for a game, for they all turned up for the first Nominated Triples game of the year.
Nine rinks were in use making it a bit crowded but no one minded; it was just great to get back on the green again.
There was one pairs-game played and the team of Garry Wynne and John Moore took out the big money with a score of +39.
Runners-up on +37 were the team of Stewart Sturrock, Bob Bradley and Bob Weir.
January 9: A good field of 22 bowlers competed in the Friday Jackpot Pairs. There were 4 rinks of pairs and one game of triples.
The winners, on a score of +15 and on a count-back were:
Alan Greenhalgh and Shane Edwards from Merv Mills and Bill Heylbut.
The jackpot was not won and bowlers will be playing for a pot of $160.00 next Friday.
January 10: The first round of the Club Men’s Fours Championship was played in mild and overcast conditions.
A wonderful field of 15 teams nominated, (60 Bowlers). Just great to see!
The results were as follows:-
Ray Sullivan 28
John Bywater 16
John Cary 23
Graham Harvey 18
Bob Foster 37
Ray Prigg 5
Danny Johnson 25
John Adam 20
Barry Drayton – Bye
Dennis Ashbridge 23
Leigh Hunt 19
Richard Lee 21
Paul Syron 12
Alan Greenhalgh 19
Anthony Grant 16
Probably the “match-of-the-day” was that played between Dennis Ashbridge’s team and the Leigh Hunt consortium.
The match was tied at 19-all at the 18th end and it was anyone’s game over the last three ends with the head constantly changing.
Some brilliant shots were played by both teams but experience finally won out with the Ashbridge combination, breathing a sigh of relief as they move on to the next round.
Thanks to Umpire Terry Eyles for his participation.
The second round of the Club Fours Championship was to be played on Sunday 11 January but, along with Sunday Introduction to Bowls, it was washed out.
This event has been postponed until next Saturday morning with attendance at 9.00am for 9.30 start.
There will be some good matches played so well worth a watch.
