A Group of 43 from the Karuah RSL Sub Branch had a bus trip to the Rathmines WW11 Heritage Listed RAAF Seaplane Base situated on Lake Macquarie.
After an enjoyable morning tea the local tour guide Bill McArthur provided some history on the development of the area up to when it was turned into the RAAF Seaplane Base during WW11.
The talk was followed by a walk to Memorial Point where plaques are placed on walls remembering those who served at the Base – then a bus trip around the site to look at the remaining buildings and structures from the Base.
After lunch in the old Officers Mess, now the Bowling Club, the group returned to Karuah after an enjoyable day.
