Year 9 student from Bulahdelah Central School, Bianca Mason, was one of fifty athletes selected from New South Wales and Victoria to compete in track and field competitions in Kelowna and Vancouver during June and July after proving herself at school, zone, regional and state levels.
Bianca competed in the Trevor Craven Meet in Vancouver where she won the 200m 100m, triple jump, 200m hurdles and gained third place in the long jump.
During the twenty one days overseas, there were four days of competition with training days interspersed organized by coaches from New South Wales and Victoria who were assisted by coaches from Canada.
Michaela, Bianca’s older sister, accompanied her on the trip and after the serious part of the holiday was over they spent time in Los Angeles where they visited Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, California Adventure Park and Universal Studios.
“The whole experience was absolutely incredible and I loved every second of it. Everyone was so kind and I didn’t need to stress about anything,” Bianca told Myall Coast News.
Prior to the trip businesses and locals did some serious fundraising to assist Bianca with her expenses and she added, “I would just love to thank everyone in the community of Bulahdelah and surrounding areas for conducting raffles and donating to make my trip possible.”
Bianca has her sights set on completing Year 12 and can see herself working as a physiotherapist in the sporting arena.
