Improvements by Port Stephens Council to a section of Clarence Town Road known as Carmichael’s Creek, notorious for its steep terrain and tight corners, are almost complete.
Council engineers targeted the safety of motorists to re-align the road to reduce the severity of the angles of the corners and the fall and rise of the road.
Council’s Capital Works Section Manager, Greg Kable, said the project was an important one for the community because of a crash history at the site.
“The new design has been achieved through positive negotiations with immediate landowners,” he said.
“The people working on this project are doing a great job to deliver it on time, and construction work on this section of Clarence Town Road is on schedule to be completed mid-February.”
Construction work will then continue north along Clarence Town Road, known as the river flat area, and is expected to be completed by May.
“The two revitalised sections of road will improve the safety of all road users,” Mr. Kable said.
“Council is thankful to drivers for their patience and regard for the safety of our crew on the site while these works are carried out.”
